May your weekend be full of all things local and small and glorious, in their own right.
May you spend your dollars on pounds of juicy tomatoes and ears of corn by the dozen and pots of herbs found at your Farmers Market.
May you buy the Sunday paper, not the big fat one with coupons, but the small town one, the one where your neighbors write the stories because their stories matter and because well, your neighbors write the stories.
May you fill an extra backpack with school supplies for the school across the railroad tracks because crayons are only a quarter this weekend and somebody’s child is going to need those crayons in a few weeks and you don’t really need that quarter or the 100 other ones in your pocket.
May you splurge on a cup of pour over coffee and a bottle of wine and may you linger in the comfort that you are home.
And may you be filled up with love for your place because you’ve been placed there by God for such a time as this.
Here are some reads for your weekend:
Rise: It’s a blog about Rocky Mount, written by the people who make up our city, and you’re invited to join in on the fun. Please visit- our storytellers are growing in number and I think God has blessed our place with a wealth of great writers! I feel blessed to be a part of what God is doing in this project.
Flower Patch Farm Girl: For no other reason than she is hilariously funny and I wet my pants reading this post out loud to the Man. I also love her because she writes my story so well- she’s just funnier than I could ever dream to be! If you grew up in the Sandy Patti and Petra and Carmen era…then this is a must read.
Lisa-Jo Baker: For when you think your marriage is boring. Need I say more?
Ann: A Prayer For All The World’s Sons. So beautifully written, as only Ann can write, and a challenge for us mamas of boys.
Jen Hatmaker: Sunday Night Church. You know what I’m talking about y’all. Grab a tissue. You’re going to laugh so hard you’re going to cry and then you’re going to remember the good stuff and nod your head with her. Take 5 minutes and just read it!
What’s on my nightstand:
The Circle Maker ~ Mark Batterson
7 ~ Jen Hatmaker
Graceful ~ Emily Freeman
Margin ~ Richard Swenson
Spirit Hunger ~ Gari Meacham
And finally, I want to thank every single one of you who voted for the story that I submitted to CausePub a few weeks ago. You guys voted and shared my story and shared my story and then shared it again! You worked your hineys off and encouraged me to dream a little bit bigger and guess what????!!!!
I found out today that WE got published!!!!
I have been all out rejoicing over here in our sleepy town and so I thank you again and again and again. The book will be available for purchase from Amazon on August 14. It will be released as a Kindle ebook.
And by the way, the proceeds will go to support Blood: Water Mission. So you get an ebook, our story, and an opportunity to supply clean water for 3 people for a whole year- with the purchase of 1 book. I’d be honored for you to buy this book. It’s only $9.99.
And one more thing: CausePub is giving away a Kindle Fire Tablet, a Kindle, and some other great prizes for the author who “sells” the most books. I don’t want the prizes, so if I manage to win one: I will have a drawing for everyone who buys a book and I will give it away!
Click here, through this affiliate link to purchase the book, so your purchase will count towards my goal.
Come back here and leave me a comment so that I can keep up with everyone who purchases a book so that you are entered in the drawing. I’d love for one of y’all to win!
