I wear skinny jeans and peep toe heels and the heels, well, they’re my new favorites.
I wear them because it’s date night and because I feel quite beautiful in them.
We have reservations at On the Square and we’ll sit at a small table for two. In the window.
The sun will fall and the waiter will light a candle and we’ll linger over glasses of wine and soft words.
He’ll watch me watching him and we’ll smile in tandem because we’ve nearly spent more years together than years apart and we’re beginning to mirror one another.
We’ll talk about our children and yard work and the things that make up our life. We’ll dream about where to go and what to do when we get there, as if we’ll ever really go anywhere.
We’ll dance words all around the thing we’re called to do and the thing that is breaking us and the thing that rests between us at night. We’ll go there, even on date night because this thing is the promise of something not yet fulfilled and we live in the longing.
Candles will flicker and wax will puddle and the hours will melt just as fast.
He’ll yawn and rub his head and we’ll get the check. I’ll sit quietly by and watch him, his hands moving over paper and pen and I’ll catch a glimpse of a man.
I’ll smile to myself because this view of him bent low, well it’s my favorite.
*Notice my sloppy job of polish on my toes. Nice.
I’m linking up with Lisa Jo again today for her Five Minute Friday. Just write for 5 minutes and no editing! Overlook my misuse of words and misspelling and poor punctuation, please. Today’s prompt was View and so I chose to write in real time as usual. It is, in fact, DATE NIGHT! And yes, I am wearing white skinny jeans and my heels and I do feel quite pretty.
