There she stood, her little face beet red and glistening from sweat. She still smiled at the six of us on our floats in the pool.
“No pool, no way!”, she must have said a half dozen times.
She would rather sweat on the deck, than even stick her feer in the cool water for a moment.
“Come on, Greenley! I’ll hold you! It’s not scary. Aren’t you hot out there alone?”, we all called to her.
Greenley sat down on a lounge chair and ate a cookie. She knows that cookies are safe and the comfort those chocolate chips provide is guaranteed.
To a little girl, who has never given the pool a chance, that big body of cool water is just too dangerous.
She walks over to the edge of her pool and stares at it-unsure of what to do.
So we do what lovers of cool water and baby sisters do. We hop out of the big scary pool and stick our toes in the baby pool.
We model the way for the little one.
We join her on the deck and take the baby steps with her. We sit in her pool and hold her hand.
We know the big pool can cool her entire body and refresh her parched skin, but we’ll cool our feet with her in the baby pool if she learns to trust us there.
We know that eventually, just having cool toes will not be enough to satisfy that deep longing to experience what we are experiencing in the big pool.
So we wait, with her, until she is ready.
Is there anyone that you are waiting with until they are ready to join you in the great Fountain of Living Water?
