We have served with Baptist churches, a Methodist church, a church planting organization, and a Bible church. We have gathered with believers in beautiful sanctuaries, in an old theater, a community building, on the grounds of a government housing project, beside a river in the mountains, and in our home. We have experienced many years of training at one of the best seminaries in the world and we are still trying to figure out how the body of Christ is supposed to look. We know that the church is not contained within the walls of a building, but having spent 30+ years in church buildings with programs, Bible studies, hip and cool children’s ministries, service days, and more, it is hard to imagine a body of believers that are not committed to one particular building.
Today, we gathered our team at a local McDonald’s to begin sharing life stories. We had planned to meet at Sunset park again, but due to rain, we had to make a last minute move to McDonald’s. If you know Thad, you know our family arrived early and I’m so glad we did! It was a mess!! The staff at our great McDonald’s must have had a rough night on Saturday night because the tables, the floors, and the seats were covered in icecream and footprints. Armed with Huggies wipes, we got to work cleaning some tables and chairs and tried to make our “church” presentable to our group. Everyone began arriving at 11 and the kids jumped into being kids and things began to get loud. If you have spent any time in a playplace you know that acoustically speaking, the sound was terrible. Thad and I got out our jar of rocks and began sharing our Stones of Remembrance. We muddled through the story of our life and hopefully we were able to give our team a better picture of who we are.
On the ride home, Thad smiled and said, “What do you think?”. I smiled and replied with just a shrug of my shoulders. What could I say? I have no idea what the Lord is up to, but I am excited to be a part of what ever “it” is.
The other wives and I will being meeting as a Life Transformation Group and we are praying for other ladies that we will invite to join us. Please pray that we will be able to meet with consistency. We all have children, jobs, and husbands to juggle and it is often hard to prioritize our responsibilities. Thank you for your faithful prayers!
